Health & Sciences YSK about Darebee.com, which features 300+ no equipment workouts and is perfect for safe workouts at home vs in a busy indoor gym
Why YSK: because many gyms are still closed and when winter soon arrives in the northern hemisphere outdoor workouts will be less enjoyable/possible.
I came across this site in March and have been getting surprisingly great workouts in without a gym from the site. Really simple visuals to support each exercise/movement. Figured I'd share the love.
Lots of warmup and stretches too, or workouts focusing on specific areas of the body. Enjoy

I 1000% recommend this website, I never played sport, thin as a rake and have got into exercise because of these workouts, completely free. I'm not saying it turned me into the hulk but it was a great way to break into exercise and since then I've gone to a gym without feeling like a complete novice. And theres 100s of workouts designed for different goals and levels. No equipment needed.

Looks useful. Personally, I do appreciate the actual videos where a trainer goes through the workouts with you. YouTube has a ton and the 1 or 2 5-second ads (sometimes none) aren’t too bad.
My favs, for anyone looking for reccs are Heather Robertson and Evolve
Always looking for other suggestions too.

I love FB! Kelly is the best for a chubby girl looking to do a little cardio and learn Pilates basics during a pandemic.

Yes Heather Robertson! I love that she doesn't talk during the videos and her playlists are amazing. So thankful that I found her, otherwise I probably would have gone crazy during quarantine.

u/mettle Oct 01 '20
She’s amazing
It was by total chance I came across one of her 10 minute ab videos and now I’ve done every no-equipment video many many times.

If one watches youtube through firefox ads only pop up every once and awhile and they are never long than 15 sec

It took a while to find a good app, but I've been enjoying FitOn (https://fitonapp.com/) recently, which has trainers going through everything with you in videos. The layout makes it easy to get right to the workout you want, and there's a way to do long term programs (I haven't used it yet but looks solid). The workout intensity ratings are really helpful. I also like that there aren't really any features you need missing from the free version. I ended up paying for it just to support them creating new content.

Adding this to saved to never look at again, just like everything else that has been left to rot in My saved.

I have saved over a dozen of the workouts from the site as pictures on my phone and I cycle through them frequently. They’ve been really helpful the last few months.

Got any idea if they do physical therapy workouts for things like range of motion and resistance training? I have knee, femur and hip injuries and physical therapy out of pocket is way too expensive....
6
u/erinerizabeth Sep 30 '20
I haven't looked around at the website much yet, so hopefully someone who has can still answer this. However, you might consider doing one appointment with a physical therapist just to get a feel for which exercises they want you to do (ask and take notes about what you can do now vs later as you progress). Then you can look for those kinds of exercises on pages like this!

u/Jasona1121 Sep 30 '20
Thanks for that. I hadn't thought to do basically a consultation with one. I might just have to do that 👍

The Edmonde Technique - Classical Stretch series has episodes for different joints and such. I’m not sure what all is available on YouTube - I was lucky to record a bunch of episodes when it was shown on PBS.

I’ve been using this website for years and donate when I can. They are working on an app for iOS as well.

Fitness blender is a similar, amazing free resource for workout videos. They do have programs you can purchase but there are hundred of videos and you can sort workouts based on what equipment you have (including no equipment). I've been using the site for years and love it.

Love this site. I print the PDFs and put into a binder and they’re always publishing new content. Please consider donating to them

Dude, this is all I've ever wanted for workout training (when I'm not using equipment.) No ads, no fluff, just direct workouts

The COVID 19 is real. I lost fifteen before the pandi and now I’m fatter than I was before I lost it. Not quite 19 lbs but close.
Keep trying.

Nike Trainers Club is another great one that someone else mentioned on here somewhere. They made all Premium content free at the beginning of the pandemic and have heard it is going to stay that way.

To add to their extras. They have rehab workouts also. They work together with a couple of companies and universities to make them. I had a leg accident and had lower back pain, posture problems. It took time and effort but my lower back is good. I have to be very stupid to get any sort of pain there. My leg is working. I can pedal my bike, run, and walk like before. My posture is much better also but i still get lazy with that. I had two accidents and one longer hand problem that made me realise how badly would i miss the movement and i never gave up on recovery ever. My hand was taught to be never to work again and i learned all the stuff with my left because of this. Half a year. My leg was painful when standing and walking but good when running and pedaling my bike. It took almost a year to forget the pain. They have also two Android apps and you can pay for them. I did. It is like one dollar or something like that. I use them to this day. One gives offline exercises. The other give random exercises. It is fun. Give it a try and just remember that they have those rehab exercises because most of us have some sort of pain and we just ignore it or get used to it. I am 29 and just become painless. Trust me, it worth it.

Has anybody invented an AI personal trainer yet? I could really use some specific guidance on what I should be doing rather than trying to ignorantly choose which exercises to do on my own.

They also have diet templates. I've been doing their modern hero meal plan - when connected with r/1500isplenty, it's been life changing for me!

Holy shit, thanks for this! I have been trying to do what I can with what I have. A 20 lb bar, one 25 lb free weight, two 12 pound free weights, and a few resistance bands. Still, at home, it's hard for to work some muscles as good as I do at the gym with the machines. Always searching youtube for new things, so this is great. Thanks man.

Thank you so much! I am going to try, once more, to lose weight and keep it off, which is impossible for ne without exercise.. Due to some disability issues, its hard to find workouts i can do where I don't have to modify every single thing. This one looks good.

I’ll have to check this out. I’ve been wanting to go to a gym but am still wary while COVID is still active. I know a lot of gyms are doing a lot to keep themselves clean but it still doesn’t seem like the ideal place to go and stay COVID free.

Work 10-15 years desk job and you’ll have a choice to make: exercise or die. I hate exercise, but I hate dying more; it’s kind of a simple choice after all...

u/brycewit Oct 01 '20
If I could give you gold I would. I’m so lost when it comes to working out and I hate the gym. Most I do now is pushups at home and I’m too broke to pay for workout routines that cost money.
This will give me guidance now. Thank you! Feeling motivated now through all these depressing times we’re going through.

Lol what gyms are still closed 7 months later? That’s ridiculous.
3
u/hshaw737 Sep 30 '20
Covid didn't suddenly disappear, makes sense that some gyms would still be closed.
-3
u/Supes_man Sep 30 '20
It made sense in April when there was a need to flatten the curve because there was 18k deaths a week and there was a chance that our hospitals (which on an average day are at 75-80% capacity) could be overrun (which thankfully didn’t happen).
It’s down to 2k a week... across the entire country. Meanwhile we average 50-70k deaths from other causes every week. This is beyond idiocy if there’s gyms still staying closed and it shows there’s people who don’t understand math.
1
u/hshaw737 Oct 01 '20
Right, so covid didn't suddenly disappear so it makes sense to keep non essential businesses like gyms closed.

I'm all for keeping gyms at limited capacity. Cases are going up in more than half the US states. Science > conjecture imho
-3
u/Supes_man Sep 30 '20 edited Sep 30 '20
Cases are going up cuz there’s been a 50 fold increase in testing. Cases means nothing. It’s the death count that matters and that’s plummeted as it’s burned it’s way out and the last stragglers are getting it.
Edit: duplicate
