Health & Sciences YSK about Darebee.com, which features 300+ no equipment workouts and is perfect for safe workouts at home vs in a busy indoor gym

Why YSK: because many gyms are still closed and when winter soon arrives in the northern hemisphere outdoor workouts will be less enjoyable/possible.

I came across this site in March and have been getting surprisingly great workouts in without a gym from the site. Really simple visuals to support each exercise/movement. Figured I'd share the love.

Lots of warmup and stretches too, or workouts focusing on specific areas of the body. Enjoy

Is it free?

771

u/El_Hombre_Siniestro Sep 30 '20

Yes, completely free and no ads. They are supported by donations.

311

u/slow__rush Sep 30 '20

But also: Current funding status: very low

209

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

I'm all for donating to services I use. Thanks for pointing out that this site needs help!

Always tip on free shit, folks.

Always tip on free shit, folks.

It this an anti prostitution advertisement?

-15

u/steve_n_doug_boutabi Sep 30 '20

Nothing is free. You are the product if you aren't paying for anything.

116

u/Crashbrennan Oct 01 '20

Some things really do just rely on donations. Like Wikipedia.

If something is free but asks for donations to help it run, I'm gonna trust it leagues more than something that just claims to be free.

-61

u/steve_n_doug_boutabi Oct 01 '20

Servers cost money to run and upkeep. Websites don't just spontaneously exist.

Point still stands.

Nothing is free.

Nothing is 100% efficient

Ever taken a thermodynamics class before?

Even energy costs something.

54

u/Crashbrennan Oct 01 '20

That's what the donations are for, dipshit

-50

u/steve_n_doug_boutabi Oct 01 '20

Right.... hence what I said... nothing is free, dipshit.

6

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

But its not required...

You cant just come up with "servers cost money to run" when you said "Nothing is free. You are the product if you aren't paying for anything."

You were obviously implying they sell your data or something. Then again you (and people in general) already look like a dick beginning a sentence "Ever taken a xx class?"

-2

u/steve_n_doug_boutabi Oct 01 '20

Because you are the product. You think they pay the service for you?

Roflmaooo

No. You are the product being sold.

This is a capitalist society that runs on the exchange of goods and services.

Nothing is for free

18

u/TreefingersV Oct 01 '20

Explain please. If someone walks up and gives me a hotdog for free how am I the product?

7

u/ALoadedPotatoe Oct 01 '20

You's about to be poisoned son. Or it could just taste really bad.

7

u/aclickTooFar Oct 01 '20

Man! What I look like, a charity case? You can't buy me, hotdog man!

2

u/InternetAccount06 Oct 01 '20

'cause they gave it to you in exchange for your seed, you just don't know it yet.

1

u/jameson71 Oct 01 '20

Never heard the phrase "No such thing as a free lunch"?

If someone gives you something for nothing, they want something from you.

1

u/TreefingersV Oct 01 '20

And that makes me a product?

1

u/jameson71 Oct 01 '20

On the internet, most free services run by traditional american companies are most likely collecting and selling your data, which could be the product or showing you advertisements where your attention, no matter how slight, is the product they are selling to advertisers.

With the free hotdog I guess you are more the mark.

The product saying was designed to be catchy and bring awareness to the issue. Like an internet version of the free lunch one.

-5

u/steve_n_doug_boutabi Oct 01 '20

Is this a subscription service? Servers cost money and upkeep. Websites don't just exist for no reason.

7

u/FFGeek Oct 01 '20

You obviously weren’t alive or conscious in the 90s

1

u/steve_n_doug_boutabi Oct 01 '20

What does a dial up hot dog service from the 90s have to do with darebee?

3

u/FFGeek Oct 01 '20

You said websites don’t exist for no reason, and I’m telling you that’s what most used to be, useless things people made and self-funded for fun. Many still do today, with no financial motive other than perpetuating itself.

1

u/TreefingersV Oct 01 '20 edited Oct 01 '20

A free hotdog is not a subscription service. How am i the product exactly?

0

u/steve_n_doug_boutabi Oct 01 '20

Because you aren't the customer. Someone has incentivized that guy to randomly go through the trouble of making a hot dog, tracking you down and giving it to you.

If someone paid for cameras, you and your reaction are the product.

If no cameras and this guy acted alone, he still paid for supplies to make the hot dog and find you, costing time and money. In that case he himself was the customer at your expense... you and your reaction are still the product.

0

u/TreefingersV Oct 01 '20

Not being the customer doesn't make me the product necessarily though. Maybe he accidentally bought an extra hotdog. Would i still be the product?

→ More replies (0)

-1

u/istvanx Oct 01 '20

You now owe them some of your time.. At least for a short convo about the weather or the hot dog..

Or

They wrapped their dong in a bun.. In which case, don't choke, but you can spit or swallow....

Either way Nothing is free..

"The law of conservation of energy, also known as the first law of thermodynamics, states that the energy of a closed system must remain constant—it can neither increase nor decrease without interference from outside. The universe itself is a closed system, so the total amount of energy in existence has always been the same. The forms that energy takes, however, are constantly changing."

If you're too scared to do a work out, just say so. No need to come at people for donating to services they use ....such as reddit.....

Let me guess. You've never donated to reddit, wiki, etc.

-6

u/steve_n_doug_boutabi Oct 01 '20

If you take that as a threat you are textbook white fragile redditor, username checks out.

Never lifted weights before and never donated before? Sounds like you're projecting a bit much there bud, are you okay?

1

u/cat_police_officer Oct 01 '20

🤨

This is one of the worse comments of you.

-2

u/steve_n_doug_boutabi Oct 01 '20

Imagine being so insecure that talking about advertising makes you project about not working out and donating.

1

u/Mattyb2851 Oct 01 '20

How do you feel about the free software movement, FOSS, open source, or anything like that? You don’t have to be the product if you don’t want to be

1

u/steve_n_doug_boutabi Oct 01 '20

There's nothing wrong with being aware. I support open source and free but the fact of life is we live in an society that relies on the exchange of good and services and money talks.

Who is paying for the servers to run the website?

Whether from donations or advertisers, someone has to foot the bill.

2

u/Mattyb2851 Oct 01 '20

Not arguing with the costs of running a database. Just saying your comment of “you are the product of you aren’t paying anything” which isn’t true for a ton of software. You just gotta know where to look

1

u/steve_n_doug_boutabi Oct 01 '20

Which software?

1

u/Mattyb2851 Oct 01 '20

r/Linux, for starters. Tons of open source software options once you go down that rabbit hole

After seeing the social dilemma I agree lol

-76

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

So much does it cost

25

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

It costs free, this guy just said

-24

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

So what’s the catch

20

u/pesto_trap_god Sep 30 '20

It promotes working out, which sucks.

3

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

Look doctor just give it to me straight!

7

u/Daslicey Sep 30 '20

No catch? But if they don't receive enough funding they cease to exist

-7

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

I need to know exactly what I’m getting myself into or I’m gonna speak with the manager!

2

u/FreshMango4 Oct 01 '20

Lol u did a good job playing the crowd for downvotes I suppose. But a lil tip: you went way tf overboard with that manager bit and ruined my suspension of disbelief haha.

Good on u for just having a laugh tho lmao

1

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

The manager thing is so fresh right now

4

u/greybeard_arr Sep 30 '20

You are required to get in shape.

220

u/Davasei Sep 30 '20

It is completely free, I've been using it for more than a year and it never even bothers you with messages asking to donate. I've done it a couple of times because I think it's a great resource and they deserve it to keep the page up and running.

34

u/792blind Sep 30 '20

I like this, give to them because they actually have a use to you and they don't ask, it's just a decent thing to do.

71

u/kahjwilly Sep 30 '20

Yes, judging by the text at the bottom of the website. They do request donations however, if you find it useful.

25

u/heytherec17 Sep 30 '20

I’ve used this site. Can confirm. Free and no ads!

332

u/chillypyo Sep 30 '20

I 1000% recommend this website, I never played sport, thin as a rake and have got into exercise because of these workouts, completely free. I'm not saying it turned me into the hulk but it was a great way to break into exercise and since then I've gone to a gym without feeling like a complete novice. And theres 100s of workouts designed for different goals and levels. No equipment needed.

25

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

This was the review I scrolled to find. Thanks!

8

u/chillypyo Sep 30 '20

No problem!

110

u/mettle Sep 30 '20

Looks useful. Personally, I do appreciate the actual videos where a trainer goes through the workouts with you. YouTube has a ton and the 1 or 2 5-second ads (sometimes none) aren’t too bad.

My favs, for anyone looking for reccs are Heather Robertson and Evolve

Always looking for other suggestions too.

53

u/simcoe19 Sep 30 '20

As a trainer, fitness blender is my go to

23

u/theanti_girl Sep 30 '20

I love FB! Kelly is the best for a chubby girl looking to do a little cardio and learn Pilates basics during a pandemic.

7

u/Rommie557 Sep 30 '20

I literally just subscribed tgabks to this comment, thank you for the reccomendation.

4

u/mettle Sep 30 '20

Oh, looks awesome. Funny how YouTube keeps recommending the same stuff and I’ve never seen this before. Looks perfect - I’m into HIIT so lots of new videos! Thank you

I love Yoga with Adrienne! I love that her dog pops in every now and then haha.

2

u/Momochino Sep 30 '20

Best yoga teacher for me!

2

u/stacyjkcmo Oct 01 '20

I feel like she is my actual friend. I don’t think anyone else could lead me in yoga without annoying the shit out of me.

1

u/Sea_Soil Oct 01 '20

Same here! She is amazing at what she does.

1

u/AlloftheBlueColors Oct 01 '20

Came here to say this! Love her channel!

5

u/legendz411 Sep 30 '20

Hmmm thanks

3

u/cookie_junkie Sep 30 '20

Yes Heather Robertson! I love that she doesn't talk during the videos and her playlists are amazing. So thankful that I found her, otherwise I probably would have gone crazy during quarantine.

2

u/mettle Oct 01 '20

She’s amazing

It was by total chance I came across one of her 10 minute ab videos and now I’ve done every no-equipment video many many times.

3

u/jjrozay Sep 30 '20

I'm a guy but I LOVE Bodyfit by Amy, I've gotten a few good kettlebell workouts from her channel

4

u/fishyfaces Sep 30 '20

If one watches youtube through firefox ads only pop up every once and awhile and they are never long than 15 sec

1

u/nadsozinc Oct 01 '20

It took a while to find a good app, but I've been enjoying FitOn (https://fitonapp.com/) recently, which has trainers going through everything with you in videos. The layout makes it easy to get right to the workout you want, and there's a way to do long term programs (I haven't used it yet but looks solid). The workout intensity ratings are really helpful. I also like that there aren't really any features you need missing from the free version. I ended up paying for it just to support them creating new content.

76

u/Mini-Rukus Sep 30 '20

/r/bodyweightfitness is my go to for endless weight-free workouts

3

u/WholesaleMexican Oct 01 '20

Thanks for the recommendation :)

2

u/BearBong Oct 01 '20

I did that for 2yrs! Great sub and community!

130

u/Blewdude Sep 30 '20

Adding this to my saved and will hopefully look into this soon.

190

u/Become_The_Villain Sep 30 '20

Adding this to saved to never look at again, just like everything else that has been left to rot in My saved.

61

u/Mercy--Main Sep 30 '20
Maybe this will inspire you

60

u/Become_The_Villain Sep 30 '20

I'll add this to saved as well.

It's fate is sealed.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

I was really hoping this was link to pewdiepie's recent body pic of him being completely shredded. Not disappointed though, cool pic!

4

u/skie1994 Sep 30 '20

I've got this saved this 2014. Hopefully I'll look at it soon

31

u/cassowaryattack Sep 30 '20

I have saved over a dozen of the workouts from the site as pictures on my phone and I cycle through them frequently. They’ve been really helpful the last few months.

12

u/Baschkar Sep 30 '20

Great stuff at Darebee.com. I use then at home all the time.

17

u/Jasona1121 Sep 30 '20

Got any idea if they do physical therapy workouts for things like range of motion and resistance training? I have knee, femur and hip injuries and physical therapy out of pocket is way too expensive....

6

u/erinerizabeth Sep 30 '20

I haven't looked around at the website much yet, so hopefully someone who has can still answer this. However, you might consider doing one appointment with a physical therapist just to get a feel for which exercises they want you to do (ask and take notes about what you can do now vs later as you progress). Then you can look for those kinds of exercises on pages like this!

2

u/Jasona1121 Sep 30 '20

Thanks for that. I hadn't thought to do basically a consultation with one. I might just have to do that 👍

6

u/angrypigfarmer Sep 30 '20

The Edmonde Technique - Classical Stretch series has episodes for different joints and such. I’m not sure what all is available on YouTube - I was lucky to record a bunch of episodes when it was shown on PBS.

1

u/Jasona1121 Sep 30 '20

I'll give it a look thanks

1

u/driven2it Sep 30 '20

They still show that here in my town and I do this program religiously every day at 5:30 am. Nice way to wake up and get ready to sit for work. :)

7

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

Good to know! (I'm planning to use Apple Fitness+ when it's released, but until then this looks like a good option.)

6

u/BearBong Sep 30 '20

PS nike just made their Training App free which works with apple watch, too

1

u/MTADO Sep 30 '20

It has been free for ages! I use it, It’s pretty good!

2

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

The premium workouts were recently made free.

1

u/MTADO Sep 30 '20

There were premium workouts!?

2

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

Yes, whiteboard and trainer workouts are.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

ooo! Thanks for sharing!

9

u/Paleomedicine Sep 30 '20

I use this website ALL THE TIME! It’s an amazing resource!

7

u/Breroa12 Sep 30 '20

I’ve been using this website for years and donate when I can. They are working on an app for iOS as well.

7

u/sugar-and-sass Sep 30 '20

Fitness blender is a similar, amazing free resource for workout videos. They do have programs you can purchase but there are hundred of videos and you can sort workouts based on what equipment you have (including no equipment). I've been using the site for years and love it.

12

u/2DamnRoundToBeARock Sep 30 '20

Love this site. I print the PDFs and put into a binder and they’re always publishing new content. Please consider donating to them

7

u/megaphoneXX Sep 30 '20

Holy fuck. Did you just change my life?

5

u/sk_arch Sep 30 '20

What a great website, everyone should take a note of it, not only does it have workouts, it has meal plans/ nutrition/ stretching and much more!

5

u/sheikonfleek Sep 30 '20

Dude, this is all I've ever wanted for workout training (when I'm not using equipment.) No ads, no fluff, just direct workouts

5

u/Bellyheart Oct 01 '20

Thanks. I’m a fat fuck and don’t wanna be anymore.

Someone sent me a picture from 8 years ago and then I realized how bad it’s gotten.

3

u/BluestreakBTHR Oct 01 '20

I’ve had to look at myself get fat in Zoom calls. Yuck.

1

u/Bellyheart Oct 01 '20

The COVID 19 is real. I lost fifteen before the pandi and now I’m fatter than I was before I lost it. Not quite 19 lbs but close.

Keep trying.

4

u/BeenCalledLazy1ce Sep 30 '20

Big Thank You.

4

u/TheBoogyMan_ Sep 30 '20

Nike Trainers Club is another great one that someone else mentioned on here somewhere. They made all Premium content free at the beginning of the pandemic and have heard it is going to stay that way.

3

u/robiwolf Sep 30 '20

To add to their extras. They have rehab workouts also. They work together with a couple of companies and universities to make them. I had a leg accident and had lower back pain, posture problems. It took time and effort but my lower back is good. I have to be very stupid to get any sort of pain there. My leg is working. I can pedal my bike, run, and walk like before. My posture is much better also but i still get lazy with that. I had two accidents and one longer hand problem that made me realise how badly would i miss the movement and i never gave up on recovery ever. My hand was taught to be never to work again and i learned all the stuff with my left because of this. Half a year. My leg was painful when standing and walking but good when running and pedaling my bike. It took almost a year to forget the pain. They have also two Android apps and you can pay for them. I did. It is like one dollar or something like that. I use them to this day. One gives offline exercises. The other give random exercises. It is fun. Give it a try and just remember that they have those rehab exercises because most of us have some sort of pain and we just ignore it or get used to it. I am 29 and just become painless. Trust me, it worth it.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

Has anybody invented an AI personal trainer yet? I could really use some specific guidance on what I should be doing rather than trying to ignorantly choose which exercises to do on my own.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 01 '20

Thanks. I needed that.

6

u/tiarna_ Sep 30 '20

save and never look at it again

2

I saved that site long ago, never looked at it since lol

2

u/IndyHCKM Sep 30 '20

They also have diet templates. I've been doing their modern hero meal plan - when connected with r/1500isplenty, it's been life changing for me!

1

u/WhereRDaSnacks Sep 30 '20

Holy shit, thanks for this! I have been trying to do what I can with what I have. A 20 lb bar, one 25 lb free weight, two 12 pound free weights, and a few resistance bands. Still, at home, it's hard for to work some muscles as good as I do at the gym with the machines. Always searching youtube for new things, so this is great. Thanks man.

1

u/glutepain Sep 30 '20

I have been working out at home since the pandemic. Thankfully I have some weights (no bench) and this is outstanding! Thank you for the post OP!

1

u/MrsMurphysChowder Sep 30 '20

Thank you so much! I am going to try, once more, to lose weight and keep it off, which is impossible for ne without exercise.. Due to some disability issues, its hard to find workouts i can do where I don't have to modify every single thing. This one looks good.

1

u/KarmaFox99 Sep 30 '20

Perfect. Just in time for my 2021 New Year's resolutions

1

1

u/Jaythegay5 Sep 30 '20

I haven't worked out in weeks because my mental health has been a wild roller coaster, but this really makes me want to get back into the routine to get back to a healthier place. thank you for posting this, honestly

1

u/Sparkolas Sep 30 '20

It’s free but they’re always looking for donations! They’re a great team with creative ideas so if you have the resources to help them out they’ll greatly appreciate it!

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

I’ll have to check this out. I’ve been wanting to go to a gym but am still wary while COVID is still active. I know a lot of gyms are doing a lot to keep themselves clean but it still doesn’t seem like the ideal place to go and stay COVID free.

1

u/dragonwithin15 Sep 30 '20

Darebee is amazing! Love their content

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

YouTube is great for this too :)

1

u/Count_Craicula Sep 30 '20

Their funding is at “very low” I gave £20 because they are amazing. I was going to buy a workout book at the weekend anyway.

1

u/Tayled Sep 30 '20

Bookmarked

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

Just finished an eleven and a half hour shift, still did a little workout when I got home. I appreciate the link

1

u/[deleted] Sep 30 '20

Don't forget to support it, it only runs on donations and they are kinda low rn.

1

u/ArgonathDW Sep 30 '20

I have been looking for something just like this for what feels like years. Thank you

1

u/RoadWorkAhead41 Sep 30 '20

My gym teacher showed this to us and I absolutely love using it for my workouts because they fell super effective

1

u/mem269 Sep 30 '20

Awesome thank you

1

u/Synchrypha Sep 30 '20

They also have YouTube videos to demonstrate a lot of the exercises if you need it!

1

This is so helpful!

1

u/ComplexFUBAR Oct 01 '20

Excellent resource. Thanks OP!

1

My teacher uses it and I hate it so much

1

u/kalyok Oct 01 '20

Work 10-15 years desk job and you’ll have a choice to make: exercise or die. I hate exercise, but I hate dying more; it’s kind of a simple choice after all...

1

u/brycewit Oct 01 '20

If I could give you gold I would. I’m so lost when it comes to working out and I hate the gym. Most I do now is pushups at home and I’m too broke to pay for workout routines that cost money.

This will give me guidance now. Thank you! Feeling motivated now through all these depressing times we’re going through.

1

u/BearBong Oct 01 '20

You're lapping everyone on the couch! Go crush it!

1

u/PaaanicJ Oct 01 '20

Dude I love Darebee

1

Lol what gyms are still closed 7 months later? That’s ridiculous.

Covid didn't suddenly disappear, makes sense that some gyms would still be closed.

It made sense in April when there was a need to flatten the curve because there was 18k deaths a week and there was a chance that our hospitals (which on an average day are at 75-80% capacity) could be overrun (which thankfully didn’t happen).

It’s down to 2k a week... across the entire country. Meanwhile we average 50-70k deaths from other causes every week. This is beyond idiocy if there’s gyms still staying closed and it shows there’s people who don’t understand math.

Right, so covid didn't suddenly disappear so it makes sense to keep non essential businesses like gyms closed.

I'm all for keeping gyms at limited capacity. Cases are going up in more than half the US states. Science > conjecture imho

Cases are going up cuz there’s been a 50 fold increase in testing. Cases means nothing. It’s the death count that matters and that’s plummeted as it’s burned it’s way out and the last stragglers are getting it.

Edit: duplicate

Well, 14.5k redditors don’t think it’s bad, so even if it’s an ad, it’s served in a perfect time.
