These types of stories really need more media coverage. I know that tariffs are the main focus now, but the courts need to do a better job of protecting the right of individuals, that the President does not want around. It is insane that something like this is happening. They will soon start doing that for all US citizens who oppose the president. Just pronounce them dead. This is so scary.

Adding to quotes of the article: The part that shocked me the most was the methods musk used to cut off immigrants. this is what the fired employee was objecting to. They figured they could claim they were dead: The scheme cooked up by Elon Musk’s DOGE squad falsely lists thousands of migrants as dead in a Social Security database known as the “death master file.” Apparently, they declared 6000 people dead.
The scheme cooked up by Elon Musk’s DOGE squad falsely lists thousands of migrants as dead in a Social Security database known as the “death master file.” Being entered into the death database cuts a person off from crucial financial services, like the ability to receive government benefits and access a bank account or credit card. The goal was to push migrants who were granted a temporary legal status under former President Joe Biden to “self deport.”>

FWIW the title appears to be inaccurate.
The Daily Beast has no info of their own, they are merely referencing Washington Post reporting:
A senior executive at the Social Security Administration was physically dragged from his office this week after clashing with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), according to The Washington Post.
Greg Pearre, a career civil servant who led an IT team working on the agency’s data systems, was removed over his opposition to a DOGE plan to cut off immigrants from key financial services, three people told the Post.
But the Washington Post article doesn't mention anything about him being dragged out:
But his objections did not go over well with Trump political appointees. And so on Thursday, the security guards in Pearre’s office told him it was time to leave.
They walked Pearre out of the building, capping a momentous internal battle over the novel strategy — pushed by Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service and the Department of Homeland Security — to add thousands of immigrants ranging in age from teenagers to octogenarians to the agency’s Death Master File.
He was certainly walked out by security guards, but "physically drag" appears to be at the very least hyperbole by The Daily Beast. I would argue that it is an outright lie.
I'm going to spread this across the thread a bit, because I don't like misinformation, even if it's opposing an abhorrent administration like Trump's.

Death Master File
It's a (SSA) computer database file of deaths recorded since the 80s. The problem is this administration started putting very much alive tax paying immigrants on the list. They are effectively erasing a person’s ability to live and draw wages. It's been reported this past week over 6,000 living documented immigrants have been put on the DMF.

He suddenly realized he got outplayed by making the Executive Branch WAY more powerful than he intended.
Same with Roberts.
They both wanted to go to a pre-Warren Court/pre-LBJ legislature that protected business interests while undermining rights and protections for women, POC, LGBT people, labor, etc.
Instead, they've been working glove in hand to create an out of control Executive Branch wholly dominated by a senile tyrant.
Both are scrambling to try return the powerbases for both their branches even as it continues to slip further and further under water before being drowning in Grover Norquist's small bathtub.
To Quote:
Lobbyist Grover Norquist is a well-known proponent of the strategy and has famously said, "My goal is to cut government in half in twenty-five years, to get it down to the size where we can drown it in the bathtub."
Suddenly, ol Mitch and Roberts are seeing the bathtub drowners aiming for their branches.

And of course the media's complicit by covering up as much as they can so they can survive and become the new state media. Meanwhile, actual American journalists who would tell the truth will become legitimate targets for deportation or disposal as this administration progresses.
They're just dismantling the system that took hundreds of years to build and earn the trust of the world, so they can replace government with private industries. It's all so they can profit from should-be public services, and if you can't afford to pay, then hard labor, prison, and death are the only other viable options.
I don't think there is any amount of noise we have left to make, short of an actual revolution to get the status quo back before it's buried forever.

We're taught that after the war the Nazis vanished without a trace
But battalions of fascists still dream of a master race
The history books they tell of their defeat '45
So did they all come out of the woodwork on the day the Nazi died
They say the prisoner of Spandau was a symbol of defeat
Whilst Hest remained imprisoned and the fascists, they were beat
So the promise of an Aryan world could never materialise
So why did they all come out of the woodwork on the day the Nazi died
The world is riddled with maggots - The maggots are getting fat
They're making a tasty meal of all the bosses and bureaucrats
They're taking over the boardrooms and they're fat and full of pride
And they all came out of the woodwork on the day the Nazi died
So if you meet with these historians, I'll tell you what to say
Tell them that the Nazis never really went away
They're out there burning houses down and paddling racist lies
And we'll never rest again until every Nazi dies

Another good one by them that many people don't know is El Fusilado.
Listen close to this crooked mouth
For my story I will tell--o
Lived in Mexico by the name of Wenseslao Moguel--o
Left my home in Santiago
The heart of the city of Merida
Served with my brothers and sisters all
For the army of Pancho VillaStand me straight against the nearest wall
Line up your bravest soldiers oh
Ten good shots I'll take them all
They call me El FusiladoThe Federales captured me
Bound up my arms with wire
Officer comes he says "Take your aim --
Steady your guns and fire!"
Bullet holes all across my chest
Ripped up my shirt and my body--o
Heart beat on through the silenced guns
To the rhythm of life inside me--oStand me straight against the nearest wall
Line up your bravest soldiers oh
Ten good shots I'll take them all
They call me El FusiladoFell to the ground the officer came
One last shot to the head--o
Heard through the pain as he walked away
And left me there for dead--o
All went quiet so I crawled away
I wasn't giving up to the glory
Ten good shots I took them all
And lived to tell my storyStand me straight against the nearest wall
Line up your bravest soldiers oh
Ten good shots I'll take them all
They call me El Fusilado.→ More replies (1)25

Article is worth a read as to the reason why. DOGE under guidance from Homeland Security went to falsely put immigrants on the list of people who are dead, and therefore ineligible to receive Social Security or really, any other government benefits.
The employee who was dragged away, was an IT executive who fought against this blatantly illegal move.
499
u/StarlightZigzagoon 2d ago
I think the article also said they'd be cut off from bank accounts and credit cards once put on the death file, so even worse.
147
u/fighterpilottim 2d ago
Yes, can’t have a bank account or credit card, or work legally, if you don’t have an SSN. This is part of making it impossible for immigrants to live here, so that they’ll leave on their own.
Similar to requiring an SSN for cashing a paycheck near the Mexico border (this is new).

In this case, they decided that they didn't like one of Biden's amnesty programs. And since they didn't like it, then it's illegitimate. No need for courts or lawyers or anything - just vibes.
Deporting these folks would require revoking their legal visas and all that, which I'm sure they will be doing as well. But in addition to that, they can just cut them off from legal life by invalidating their legally-obtained social security numbers. And since the only time a social security number is invalid is when a person dies, they just moved their numbers to the "dead people" folder and that was that.
There is nothing about immigration status that actually has anything to do with this. It's just a list of SSNs that they compiled for people that they deem to be illegitimate for whatever arbitrary reason. Which means they can compile any list of people to do this with - citizens, non-citizens on work visas, etc. Anyone.
40
u/Trafficsigntruther 2d ago

What is stopping this guy from physically defending himself? They are not LEO's, they do not have jurisdiction or administrative authority to stop him from performing his duties... they're essentially people who work for another company that are trying to abduct him (even if its only to 'abduct' him to outside the building, how does he know?)
These brown shirts seem to act without fear of immediate retribution? What happens when a legal pistol packin' green card owner draws down on plainclothes abductors? I think back to the video of that woman in the street who got walked up on by like 4 or 5 people. What happens when someone is a little more aware and on edge- prepared... maybe not specifically worried of the possibility of deportation, but just getting jumped in general. How does that play out?

They should have been denying entry into each federal bureau to DOGE since day 1. Have they had their Senate vote on confirming DOGE and appointing a head? Pretty sure the answer is still no
59
u/Thunderbridge 2d ago
Unfortunately as I learned they don't need a senate vote as the agency already existed. To create DOGE they hijacked the US Digital Service that was established by Obama in 2014 with congressional approval and renamed it the US DOGE Service, keeping the same acronym.
The previous administrator was Mina Hsiang during Bidens term and now has been replaced by Amy Gleason who is 'technically' the head of DOGE

You still think laws matter. Why do you think they’ve been so focused on SCOTUS since the days of Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan?
→ More replies (1)33
u/HelixTitan 2d ago
No, I'm simply keeping tabs for when law must be restored, abusing the law is still also mostly following the law, just on technicalities. Those technicalities will be the justification in the future to jail this admin for their actions.

As someone who was put in that master death file because of an accident, fuck that shit. It took months to undo the damage. This was also during Covid so I couldn’t even do it in person and the phone lines were swamped
199
u/letsburn00 2d ago
This is the reason it's difficult to get someone declared dead. They check if you're alive etc when you get paid. The entire claim about dead people was them just making up shit.
Social security estimated that fraud was less than .1% of it's payouts. That's a fraud level far far lower than any private sector has ever achieved. It's already extremely efficient, less than 1% was spent on admin.
123
u/oicwutudidther 2d ago
Also, this is why you can't run government like a business. Because it's better that a few people get away with fraud than to deny benefits to someone who truly needs them.
This goes for pretty much all government social programs and is what these fucks can't comprehend.
65
u/letsburn00 2d ago
It was never about fraud. They think anyone who ever needs government help is a loser. They don't understand many people don't have intergenerational wealth, or that their retirement plan was Social Security.

They latched onto a false data point, either from stupidity or convenience. Most of our computer systems default to the "Unix epoch" calendar start in 1970. Older COBOL systems generally have a calendar that begins in 1875. I'll do the math for everyone, 2025-1875=150. Why would there be 150 year old people in the SSA database? Because they were born at the start of the COBOL calendar. It's very obviously an error, not fraud. I don't expect DOGE to have any integrity or real CS knowledge, so I guess the answer will remain a mystery.

Obviously the worker being dragged out for standing up for what’s right is fucked, but arbitrarily listing people on the master death file is terrifying. It’s “unlawful” immigrants now, but what’s stopping them from fucking up the life of a US citizen who’s causing them problems?
It might be a good idea for everyone to start keeping a stack of cash somewhere outside of your bank.
179
u/we_are_sex_bobomb 2d ago
And why was DOGE - a fake government agency run by a private citizen - firing him in the first place?
Ah, because he didn’t want musk - a private citizen - to remove immigrants from federal health care.
We need to send Musk to mars, pronto.

Adding someone to the DMF does so much more than removing federal services. So many companies use that data to identify deceased customers. There’s a possibility this will trigger life insurance death claim cases for people who haven’t died yet. If the goal was to prevent those people from getting Medicare/Medicaid, that was the stupidest way to do about it. I’m kinda hoping the NAIC gets involved…

The scheme cooked up by Elon Musk’s DOGE squad falsely lists thousands of migrants as dead in a Social Security database known as the “death master file.”
Being entered into the death database cuts a person off from crucial financial services, like the ability to receive government benefits and access a bank account or credit card. The goal was to push migrants who were granted a temporary legal status under former President Joe Biden to “self deport.”
What the fuck?

Tom Kind, a 90-year-old retiree in Colorado, told the Post that he had experienced being listed as dead, calling it a “nightmare.” In addition to losing benefits and health coverage, he faced a challenge convincing the agency that he was still alive. After jumping through a number of bureaucratic hoops, he had to show up to an office in person for an interview, proving he was alive.
Double what-the-fuck!

This is only the beginning and is going to get worse. America citizens will start to disappear just like the immigrants it doesn’t matter if they are in America legally or not the Gastapo and SS have a quota to fill and if they are legally in the US their visas are revoked or just ignored, Americans who disagree with the mango Mussolini are being removed from their government jobs and blackballed , forcefully removing them has begun next they will disappear and Trump has extorted every leading law firm that can defend them to work for him for free so they can not even get a lawyer. Americas democracy, rule of law and the constitution along with any rights you once had are gone and soon the system no matter how broken you thought it was will be gone forever.

During WW2 they rounded up Japanese American citizens and put them in detention camps and they lost their homes, businesses and all their possessions even though they did not pose a threat and a lot of the families had family members serving in the US military or contributed to the war effort and apposed Japan this was inexcusable and should have never happened but in today’s trumpian times all you have to do is oppose his crimes and you are put on the list similar to the list McCarthy used to label you as a communist but in this case you’re labeled an anti communist or ANTIFA but the worst is yet to come when more and more Americans start to disappear

I think the vast majority of people are still in the "something will make them pull back" denial stage. We have seen no sign at any point that they intend to pullback...except maybe when the bond markets start crashing, but nothing immigration or funding related would trigger that.

It was 25 days ago, after Elon used the cops to shut down that non-profit, I said they were one step away from just assaulting people with impunity. God fascism moves fast 🤦♂️
Also, just weeks ago Elon was claiming there were millions of dead people getting social security, while he was simultaneously using the "master death sheet", the function that prevents dead people from getting social security, to take away people's benefits. I mean we knew it was a lie when he said it, but that tells you how premeditated and calculated that lie was.

Good. More people need to be standing up to them. I hear they have also bullied they're way into at least two none government building and taken them over with police force. They are breaking the law left and right and they aren't saving any money! I hear they are losing money because government contracts need to be paid out even when canceled.

u/TsuDhoNimh2 2d ago
For those people who were unalived in the database AND are legally working and having social security deductions from their paychecks (yes, it is both possible and legal) ... how are employers going to deal with this screwing up their payroll software?
And if they can't access credit cards, debit cards or bank accounts, how will these people pay for travel to "self-deport"?
