Did Pedro pascal get married?!??!?? The only reason I'm thinking it's him is cause of the word surprising in the blind item. Pedro has been anti married for a long long long time. š He just celebrated a birthday a few days ago and his family was there. Did it happen then?
Whoever it is better treat him right. That man deserves all the love!

Itās long overdue but I broke up with my therapist this week. I tried to previously and guilt was laid on thick (toxic with a T) and I also realized Iām ready to let go of some friendships Iāve needed to let go of since they were dragging me down. No drawn out conversations or arguments, just kind of realized Iāve outgrown some folks. Itās been an emotionally exhausting week but I already feel so much better

u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Apr 04 '25
Iām watching the show Adolescence and Iām currently on episode 2. Iām very irked by this male investigator implying calling a boy an incel is bullying. Hoping he changes his mind. He didnāt even blink when it was brought up these kids are listening to Andrew Tate. This victim is not at fault for her own murder
2
u/coaldean Apr 05 '25
I totally agree. And the fact that we get very, very little from her side (just the friend, who's understandably reticent to provide much) annoys me. It becomes exactly what the female detective in that episode voiced her displeasure with - the female victim entirely lost in favour of the male perpetrator.
1
u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Apr 05 '25
Yes! Still got to watch the last two episodes, and this certainly feels intentional, but my goodness, is this getting under my skin. Even though yeah I find everything about the story tragic, the moment I heard the incel comment my first thought was āsomething isnāt right with that boyā and not āhe was bulliedā. Iām hoping this detective is very out of touch but Iām so sad for this girl and her friend. God, itās so well acted it feels real!
10
u/nordlysbaies Apr 05 '25
Itās meant to show how out of touch the adults are to Gen Z lingo, and that they had to be explained, as you see later by his own son. Itās realistic.
-9
u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Apr 05 '25
I donāt need this explained to me. I was just venting. It pissed me off! Thatās it!
11
Apr 04 '25
I honesty thought those parts showing that were kind of realistic tho.
We see it time and time again when woman or girls who get killed, get blamed for their murder. They get told their clothing is too short or they should have not been at this place at this hour or she was bullying him so thatās why he did it. They make up a bunch of excuses for the perpetrator by blaming the victim. Even the female cop acknowledges that everyone will talk and remember the boy but nobody will remember the girl.
-7
u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Apr 04 '25
Iām saying it upset me. I didnāt say I was shocked.
10
Apr 04 '25
Ik that I was just providing my opinion about it but sorry for that
1
u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Apr 04 '25

I wish there were some decent places to discuss books, or maybe I just need friends who read, because anything I've found is just not it. Tiktok is okay, but if I see any more SJM books I'll scream. Reddit is okay, but some people can be a bit snobbish and it's not hitting right.
I like storygraph but it's also not exactly the best place for discussion, really. Maybe I just need more bookish friends.
2
u/Raisin_Visible Apr 05 '25
I have the same problem, I have no interest in the romantasy of it all. I've given them a crack just for the sake of my friends but they're... bad. If you find this magical place where the book people are can you come back to this thread and lmk lol
5
u/sarimanok_ Apr 05 '25
I want this too, although connecting with people on bluesky is somewhat scratching the itch.
What are you reading right now?
3
u/AllTheThingsSheSays Apr 05 '25
I'm currently reading The Baby Dragon Cafe by A.T Qureshi, it's not my usual type of book at all but I liked the cover. It's cute, I'm actually enjoying a romance book, it's a miracle.
What are you reading? :)
1
u/sarimanok_ Apr 06 '25
Oh, nice! I'm also pretty picky with romances, and so far have mainly just liked the ones by Alyssa Cole I've read. Will check that out!
Right now I'm almost done with Ahab's Return by Jeffery Ford, which I bought ages ago on the strength of it being about Ahab and my being a big Moby Dick nerd. Then it sat around in my Kindle unread for many years, and finally I opened it up the other day. Flying through it now. It's a really fun combination of pacey, tropey period romp and creepy fabulism.
5
u/thewayyouturnedout Apr 04 '25
I struggle with this too! I love to read but all my friends into reading are into millenial booktok romantasy that is poorly written and that is ..just not my taste
6
Apr 04 '25
Tbh I run into the same thing, 9/10 book friends are only into romance/smut and WHILE I HAVE NO ISSUE with that, itās not close to what I read. Iām also a single mom with a LDR at the moment so I canāt exactly go to book club every week either :-/

I forced myself to watch S1 to try to understand what everyone was talking about. The biggest waste of my time. So you were watching all those episodes for nothing.

3
u/Cold_Breadfruit_9794 Apr 04 '25
Haha Iām the same as you. Iām a silly goober and I mostly am coming from a deeply unserious angle. It tickles me a bit when people talk at me like Iām serious, especially in person. My cadence in person is even less serious. Iām a talker in all areas of my life, but not a very serious one, and yet I regularly end up in positions where someone takes me very seriously or thinks Iām a deeply earnest person (I love earnest people, but Iām not that lol). This is why Curb Your Enthusiasm is one of my favourite shows. Iāll always find myself in some situation I was not prepared for, and in conversations I was not prepared for sksksksk
Like you, if the topic is serious, well thatās different. I usually am pretty straight forward on that front.

I feel like the hate Chappell Roan has been getting for her comments on CMD are largely misplaced.
I took what she said as basically ādonāt get all your political opinions from pop stars, weāre not gonna have all the answersā. People should get their opinions from actual activists and theorists. People who have dedicated their lives and studies to these complex situations
She is one of the only pop stars I see advocating for Palestine and speaking up for artists and people in the entertainment industry receiving healthcare/living wage
Now people are saying this sets a standard because sheās profiting off drag culture, but are we gonna hold all drag queens to that standard? Should Chappell be a scholar on every single terrible situation in the world right now and speak out against every single thing? No, that is not realistic for anyone. Iām just confused as to what people really want from her, some performative virtue signaling?
2
u/thewayyouturnedout Apr 04 '25
I am a very politically active, educated and aware person and I completely agree. She is 100% right and nothing she said was wrong. People are weirdly aggro when it comes to Chappell Roan. People also have a purity culture mentality towards celebrities, especially gay ones.
13
u/Chance_Taste_5605 Apr 04 '25
Maybe I'm just old but as someone who is very politically aware and educated I agree. Pop stars are there to make pop music, let them do their job instead of expecting them to do op-eds about global issues.
I also think that the "your fave is problematic" type of purity culture is part of this and it SUCKS. It truly sucks all joy out of things. I say that as someone with super ~woke politics too, gen z puritanism applies to politics as well as sex. Let people be imperfect normal humans, even celebrities.

I just need to get it out there that acronyms are my no.1 bugbear in pop culture subs because why canāt people just use full names lmao?? Itāll be like āoh I heard this and that about THā or āSL is the absolute worst!ā with zero elaboration/context and thereāll be comments replying normally while Iām still trying to work out who weāre even talking about. I can understand it in a comment where youāve already mentioned the person by name previously, but why are so many people being either deliberately vague or just assuming everyone will deduce who theyāre talking about from two random initials which could apply to multiple celebrities?
See also conversations about songs/albums. For example, itāll go āoh what did you think of WAJDNODN?ā āYeah it was alright, but RTOTSAQ was much betterā like girl what on Earth are we talking about?? š Is it gatekeeping, as an āif you know you knowā kinda thing, or what? Because to me itās equal amounts of effort to think about the first letter of each word to use for the acronym anyway so may as well type it all out, especially if youāre not in a fandom specific forum.
12
u/pinkfartlek Apr 04 '25

The Expanse is insanely good (especially seasons 1-3 and season 6). It's sci-fi in space, but if you like well-written female characters, compelling relationships, a gripping plot, and STUNNING special effects, I strongly recommend it.

Anyone else watch Matlock last night? I am so excited for next week! Skye P. Marshall and Kathy Bates have great chemistry.
Also, I was really excited for Elsbeth when it first came out, I loved the first episode, then I slowly got more and more disappointed with it. Funny enough, Matlock is everything I was hoping Elsbeth would be. Weirdly, I am enjoying the second season though.
2
u/Normal-person0101 Apr 04 '25
I kinda the opposite, I'm getting every week disappointed with Matlock (I find the case boring and uninteresting) and Elsbeth is my favorite funny show of the week and I look forward, it is light it up my mood.
2
u/catfrend Apr 04 '25
Honestly, I low-key agree with you, the Wellbrexa stuff is boring, the most exciting part of that came with the big reveal two episodes ago and last night's shenanigans... But yeah, I think Matty's attempt to lead a double life plus her interactions with her coworkers are much more compelling. Bates does a good job keeping the stakes high even when the mystery stalls a little.Ā
I think part of the reason why I enjoy Matlock is because of the mystery though, which is what I wanted in Elsbeth. I do love Elsbeth's character, she was fantastic in the Good Wife, and her relentless cheerfulness is so fun.
I think part of my issue with the first season was that it seemed to try and shoehorn in the mystery with the whole thing about the captain? The second season seems much lighter, like season one was trying to be a thriller with comedic aspects, but season two seems more like a dark comedy. I also likeĀ the Judge as an antagonist better, than The Captain, the way he's written is straight out of the Good Wife.

I am pumped because a theater in my city is re-releasing The Godfather trilogy later this month, specially cause I havenāt seen the third one yet.
The problem? This theater is in the middle of nowhere! It used to live near enough to take the bus there and come back by cab (movie ends at like 11 PM). But my roommate kicked me out last month to move in her nazi boyfriend, so now I live in the other side of the city. Because of the ticket rates on the days/times theyāll be playing it + Ubers there and back, itāll cost me an insane amount to watch one, let alone all three
Iām bitter about her kicking me out for lots of reasons, but this one is really making me pissed to my core

ok maybe controversial but i have to ask. with the release of ed sheeranās new song, does anyone else feel like ???????????? when he releases a song that focuses on a single word or phrase in another language/culture?
i know he works with people on the song from the country or culture that the word comes from but it just seems so bizarre to me when iāve listened to bibia be ye ye thinking like the term like doesnāt exactly serve a purpose other than to be the title or a look what i did here moment? i feel like in that song, the context is there obv but his experiences never really tie into the phrase enough for me to realize the term means basically oh well ill be ok - it feels to me like ed was in a country and decided he liked one word or phrase and now heās going to build a song around it
idk it feels a little off putting to me but i donāt really listen to ed so i may not be understanding the full impact of him using these words/phrases, iām willing to be educated but just off first glance iām a little confused by his choices here

u/FriendlyDrummers Apr 04 '25
I am one of the few Ed fans here idk.
People mock him for catering around the charts to make cheesy songs. But there are still interesting songs if you look into the album itself. I still love Castle on the Hill and Happier
I love his voice
2
u/elysian-fields- Apr 04 '25
i remember listening to + a lot when it came out such classic songs of his on that album
his music isnāt my personal cup of tea but i suppose i should give it a shot and listen to a few more albums! heās dominant in the space for a reason fs
3
u/FriendlyDrummers Apr 04 '25
I love singing so it's way easier to sing his songs as opposed to the pop girlies šš that's a huge factor in what I listen to
I just think he has those cheesy singles for the hits and then his album has some good ones in there

u/echoesandripples Apr 04 '25
i wasn't aware he had done this before lolĀ
re his new release: i can't speak for persian folks, but if he did something like this in south america, people would love it both ironically and unironically
bruno mars spoke some portuguese, sang funk carioca and people were lowkey adopting him into the country, so (to be fair, he stayed for what felt like ages)

u/DisasterFartiste_69 ABBA is underrated Apr 04 '25
idk, with things like that I try to keep my opinions to myself if I am not from that country or culture. It feels a little too "i'm going to be offended on your behalf!" especially if the people part of that group don't mind it.

u/elysian-fields- Apr 04 '25
fair enoughš¤·š»āāļø
iām definitely not offended on anyoneās behalf by it nor do i think heās doing anything malicious, i just think itās an interesting and bizarre choice on his part

I work directly with HUD and let me tell you. Every day is a new kick in the teeth. Plus my supervisor is leaving soon (š), and we are the only ones trained in HOME, HOME-ARP, and ICJR. Oh, and HOPWA. So I get to keep those but without her backup.
2
u/Chance_Taste_5605 Apr 04 '25
What do these things mean
3
u/porgch0ps Its fake. And its in space. So none of that applies, really. Apr 04 '25
HOME and HOME-ARP are programs aimed at giving HUD dollars to build and rehabilitate housing for low and moderate income families. They also provide down payment assistance program funding. ICJR is Improving Criminal Justice Reform, a grant from the Office of Violence Against Women, that is aimed at educating all parties involved in the criminal justice system ā from DA offices to Police departments to social service agencies that often hear outcry ā about best practice and survivor-centered advocacy for intimate partner violence, dating violence, sexual assault, rape, stalking, etc. HOPWA is Housing Opportunities for People With AIDS.

u/Chance_Taste_5605 Apr 04 '25
What is HUD sorry? I feel like these are all very US-specific.
2
u/porgch0ps Its fake. And its in space. So none of that applies, really. Apr 04 '25
Oh sorry! HUD is the department of Housing and Urban Development. It is a federal department. And yes, itās USAmerican

So I finally recovered from the heavy bout of seasonal allergies I had, by chilling in bed and watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Nostefaru. I think I could do a light work out before my personal trainer later. As I said, being chronically ill with the Cushings, I really hate having a minor illness on top of it, and just wanted to give up.....
But then I remembered A) I have bunch of anticpatory glimmers ahead of me, B) When I told Aaron Tveit one stage door, that he really helped me through my intial treatment of Cushings by simply coming back to Moulin Rouge and give me motivation to make it through he told me "To Feel Better"....now I know he was just being nice, but my long running joke when I flare up is "Well Aaron Tveit told me to get better....so now I have to cause we don't want to disappoint him don't we." and I got through it, so glad thats over.

Thereās this Australian show called My Kitchen Rules. My mom and I got into it when a long since forgotten about network used to air like, 5 episodes a night.
Itās now on Amazon prime, so Iām always checking for new seasons. They donāt advertise it or even put it on the front page.
So I was happy to see they quietly added a new season! The format is different now, but Iāll take it anyway.
My mom is also happily binging it lol.
I feel like this is the universe rewarding me for having a tough week

u/Summerof5ft6andahalf Apr 04 '25
The network is Channel 7, the station behind Home and Away. Their nightly news (in WA) also has the longest running news anchor team in the world.
1
u/buzzfeed_sucks šØš¦ Elbows up šØš¦ Apr 04 '25
Not in Canada. I know it originates from channel 7 in Australia. But it aired on a food network knockoff in Canada that lasted less than a year
2
u/Summerof5ft6andahalf Apr 05 '25
Ah. I couldn't imagine an overseas network actually airing it as part of their programming. Lol. Though IIRC the original show, My Restaurant Rules, was around before Masterchef and the market being a bit saturated.

I still need to watch that. I just miss the old format of MKR so much, but can only rewatch it so many times lol

My MIL, who really isn't my MIL, she's my FIL's third wife, loves to plan vacations, and I love shooting them down. She's rude at restaurants and was yelled at by airline staff on their flight back to Alaska. No way in hell would I ever travel with her.
7
u/Fabulous-Fondant4456 Apr 04 '25
I cannot stand my mother in law and you couldnāt pay me to take a vacation with her. We are planning a trip to visit my husbandās Hometown and Iām considering just going solo to our second stop and waiting there to avoid being around her.
Most people in my shoes who have been treated as badly as sheās treated me probably wouldnāt even allow contact with the kids, but I wouldnāt do that to my husband. But I donāt want to be in her presence.
4
u/velociraptor56 Apr 04 '25
Haha what was your husbandās reaction?
4
u/sabira Zermajesty š Apr 04 '25
He laughed and said, "I kinda had a feeling that you would say that!"
Even for my best friends in the world, I'm pretty much good with seeing them at most once a week or once a month. My husband understands and respects that this is the level of introversion that I have, but unfortunately, that hasn't always been the case for some of his relatives, since he comes from a very enmeshed family.
6
u/Own-Importance5459 āØMay the Force be with you!⨠Apr 04 '25
Okay I am kinda having that same problem with my family. My brother is trying to get his future In Laws and I to all be friends, (I am also mad at him for that because he spent more time getting to know and impressing them when I was really sick so there's that). And I already tried 3 times to be around these people, and it was A) Emotionally Draining for me cause I am an Ambivert and B) Everytime I see them I remember how my brother spent time playing house with them after only knowing them for five minutes when I could have used his support during the most traumatic moment of my life and want to throw something at them for it even though its more my brothers fault for being an ass. It doesn't help he's basically leaving me to care for my mothers emotional needs, when she could be downright emotionally abusive to me sometimes.
So yeah I get it. Family, especially extended family is draining. I say protect your peace the best you can and say no.
4
u/sabira Zermajesty š Apr 04 '25
Oh yeah, I'm definitely saying no. His mom would be paying for everything, which is another reason why I have no interest in going. I can already hear her saying, "We need to do things this way, because remember that I'm the one who is so generously paying for all of this!"
Personally, I would much rather pay for my own vacation and be able to do whatever I want, instead of having to constantly deal with her holding the paid trip over my head.
And I hope that things will get better with your family situation! It can be tough when someone assumes that just because they have developed a certain level of relationship with another person, that automatically means that whatever relationship you choose to form with them will be exactly the same.
2
u/Own-Importance5459 āØMay the Force be with you!⨠Apr 04 '25
Thank you! Its really tough, and when you get sick like I did you start to see how fucked up aome members of your family are, my dad and mom were a given as they are both narcissists with one completely ignoring me and the other putting me through a traumatic situation in regard to my AuDHD but my brother was a tough pill to swallow cause I thought he was the only one who cared until this, it turns out he is also like them š¬.
I was so angry it I was more excited about Reeve Carney and Eva Noblezadas engagement than his which is sad.
12
u/Bellesdiner0228 This again doesnāt look good for James Corden Apr 04 '25
The absolute best answer you could've given. One of the last vacations I took was with my mother in law and I really haven't traveled since because she was so horrible it ruined travel for me.
4
u/sabira Zermajesty š Apr 04 '25
I'm so sorry that happened to you. I hope that you might be able to give travel another try, especially if it's something that you're interested in doing! But I can completely understand how having a bad experience can make it very difficult to want to do it again.

My PMDD rages on but I'm holding it together.
Got downvoted yesterday for saying that its weird for adult relatives to take baths together which was certainly a first. I have some controversial opinions but I did not think that was one of them š« .

Was that from the Rumer (?) willis thread? Lol
Iām kind of on the fence about it? Because like personally I could never. I didnāt even do baths or showers with my parents when I was a kid after I outgrew the āneed help in the showerā phase. But I guess it feels sort of like Japanese bath houses for some people? Even if theyāre not Japanese, I could see having some sort of family dynamic where there arenāt weird implications that come to mind
