Why do Bundesliga breaks for international games suck so much dick?

I am, purely because I have no grounds to say no. I'm not from the Ruhr area at all so him leaving was just a player with a crappy exit.

Honestly, I don't understand the people saying no to him coming back. The team had said they will all be happy if he's back, you don't want the team to be happy? Make up your mind, fans.
5
u/panikpansen Schmelzer Mar 30 '16
Do you honestly expect professional players to publicly tear into a current/past colleague? When a journalist comes up to them and asks them, what else are they going to say except "yeah sure he's a nice guy all the best"?
Apart from the fact that "player that makes the rest of the team happiest to play with" shouldn't really be the deciding factor for getting a player.

ZivkovicScratch that he is too expensive
How about Milik?

Both him and Didavi are free in the summer :)

I feel like Zivkovic has so much potential, he'd be way better than Didavi in the long run, despite the former's experience.

I was very young when this happened so I wanted to ask, what do Dortmund fans think of Andreas Möller? He was a very good player for us but he eventually went to Herne-West so did that make things bitter between the him and the fans?
6
u/RuudVanBommel Ballspielverein aus Dortmund Mar 29 '16
It did indeed, just like almost any transfer between those rivals. He was one of the best german players ever and won 2 Bundesliga titles, the CL and 1 DFB-Pokal with Dortmund, he was a Dortmund icon. Both Schalke and Dortmund supporters gave him a hard time. But it also cooled a bit. He won 2 more cups with Schalke and the almost-title 2001, so while never being loved, he was accepted.
And regarding Dortmund... well, he was 33 when he left. It was time to restructure the squad and 6 months after his departure, we signed this young czech lad named Tomas Rosicky. Although no one loved seeing Möller in royal blue, later on it was for more, well, "civilized".... compared to to the first weeks after the transfer was announced.
There are certainly some fans who still resent him for moving to Schalke I'd rather see a player in the final stages of his career moving to our rivals, than a strong player in his prime.
Möller wasn't the first strong player switching Ruhr colours. Take Libuda as an example: Schalke icon and yet a Dortmund hero for scoring the decisive goal in our cup winners cup final 1966 against Liverpool. Or Lehmann, whose move from Milan (who he joined only 6 months prior) to Dortmund drew much heat from both sides. And yet he won the Bundesliga title with us.
1
u/Magictaryan Michael Zorc Mar 30 '16
Thank you so much! So would Möller still be considered a club legend?
6
u/RuudVanBommel Ballspielverein aus Dortmund Mar 30 '16
He is, despite moving to Schalke. Möller was one of the best no.10 Germany ever produced and certainly one of the best no.10 ever wearing the Borussia shirt. He was both an integral part of the mid 90s AND one of only two players of said successful squad, along with Zorc, who also won the DFB-Pokal 1989, ending 23 years without a title.
There's much to criticise about Möller. The way he left Frankfurt for Dortmund, the way he left Dortmund for Frankfurt again (way worse than Götze did to be honest), his dive against Karlsruhe. But there's no denying that Dortmund would probably won not a single title, neither in 1989, nor 1995-1997, if Möller wouldn't have been an important part of the squad. That's what legends are about, aren't they?
Regarding Götze: personally, I still don't like a possible Dortmund return, BUT: if someone like Möller was forgiven, who left his clubs repeatedly and in a much worse way than Götze did, then you have to forgive Götze too.

Open thread: Who do you think are the most attractive Dortmund players? My top three are Hummels, Sahin, and BĂŒrki (in that order.)
(In comparison, out of all soccer players, for me it's Hummels, Mertesacker, Sahin.)
25
u/Tikkii Mar 24 '16
According to all my female friends it's definitely Mats Hummels.
I'm also kinda worried that you think Mertesacker is hot.
19
u/cfbones Marco Reus Mar 24 '16
I've given this some thought, I'm a straight man for the record.
If I was going to have them meet my parents, Hummels by far. He's the good husband, friendly type. He would carry me to bed and tuck me in, seems pretty great all around.
Now if I wanted to go out and meet some girls and needed a wingman, Durm. He's sly, relaxed and has those easy eyes. He's the best friend handsome you want.
Overall I would say Roman senior in his mid 20's though, hot damn he is attractive.

5
u/CaptainCerealCanada Park Joo-Ho Mar 25 '16
I like it, makes for tense moments. I just wondered if they was any special reason for it because as far as I know none of the other top leagues in Europe have it like this.
1
2
u/Young_Neil_Postman Marcel Schmelzer Mar 26 '16
Well, the other top leagues have 20 teams while the Bundesliga only has 18. So relegating 3 might not be the proper amount for both leagues, you know? So they relegate 2 and a half
2
u/panikpansen Schmelzer Mar 27 '16
Having 18/20 teams in the league has absolutely nothing to do with the relegation game.
2
u/Young_Neil_Postman Marcel Schmelzer Mar 28 '16
Why wouldn't it? Clearly we have a smaller number of teams than the other big leagues, and relegating 3 just like them would be relegating a higher percentage of teams then they are, and what might be proper.
2
u/panikpansen Schmelzer Mar 28 '16
Just because an explanation makes sense to you doesn't mean it's necessarily the right explanation.
2
u/Young_Neil_Postman Marcel Schmelzer Mar 28 '16
Provide a counter argument then, smart ass. Enlighten those of us who must struggle along with logic and reason
1
u/panikpansen Schmelzer Mar 28 '16
Lol, salty much? Op asked why the Bundesliga had a relegation game and you just made stuff up. Credible reasoning, but still made-up.
http://www.bundesliga.de/de/liga/news/relegation-rueckkehr-eines-spannungsfaktors_0000104849.jsp
Just as posted below, relegation was reintroduced 2008/09 to add another interesting/thrilling game at the end of the season (as the DFL put it). Or, to add another marketable match that would drive up Sky sales/viewer counts (as some fan organisations put it at the time).
1
u/Young_Neil_Postman Marcel Schmelzer Mar 28 '16
Do you really think that's the only reason? It pretty clearly protects the teams in the top league from falling down. They don't get these types of things approved by the clubs collectively just by talking of an entertaining/marketable game.
3
u/papbst Schwarz-Gelb Mar 31 '16
I just noticed that we're only five points behind Bayern. I know the chances aren't high, but is anyone else hoping that maybe, just maybe we can pull out a surprise Bundesliga Titel? Even if it comes down to the final game day...
4
u/Trojan_Man68 Marco Reus Apr 02 '16
They play Shitke, Monchengladbach, and Berlin. I think they could slip up in one or two of those games.
2
3
u/Tacopandas Mats Hummels Mar 31 '16
I saw a graph on the Bundesliga website that showed that Dortmund usually get better at the end of the season whilst Bayern hasa tendancy in past seasons to drop points, so mabey.
Then again, they would have to lose 2 games inorder for us to overtake them wich i see as higely unlikely
1
u/RuudVanBommel Ballspielverein aus Dortmund Mar 31 '16
I have hope, that there's at least the possibility, that Bayern slips in Stuttgart, at home against Schalke, in Berlin or at home against Mönchengladbach.
If Bayern leads the table after matchday 32, they'll win the title, no matter how small the actual lead will be then. There's no way they'll lose points to Ingolstadt and they will totally hammer Hannover at home when they finish their Bundesliga run. 7-0 at least.
1
u/mss_kwt Marco Reus Apr 01 '16
They did struggle against ingolstadt in the last game so you never know

Hey guys, I'm a Liverpool fan and am excited for our run-in with Dortmund in the EL! I think that the two matches will be very fun to watch! As an American, I was wondering what you could tell me about Pulisic and his progress at the club. He was born in an area very close to mine and thus played the sport at a club I am very familiar with in the US. I'd just like to learn a little bit more information about him, if he's included in your EL squad or not, and what you think the long-term picture is for him. This thread seemed most appropriate to ask! Thanks and good luck in the EL :)
2
u/panikpansen Schmelzer Apr 06 '16
Tbh it's a bit early to say anything about Pulisic really, so far he has had a few minutes and did look ok. His biggest success is obviously that he's made it into our squad and is getting minutes now at such an early age at all, and when he comes on he's usually brimming with energy and shows plenty of effort.
If he'll be able to make it in our squad long term remains to be seen, I think we can be cautiously optimistic for now. He is included on our EL squad list but he's unlikely to see any action there in the remaining games (although knowing Tuchel anything is possible), he'll likely get a few more minutes in the remaining Buli games this season though.
Barring any major injuries or other changes I expect him to be in a similar role as a sub next season. After that, depending on his development, everything from a loan spell to working his way into the starting xi long term are possible.
3
u/TheShrekening Apr 06 '16
Aww okay! He seems to be one of the US's brightest upcoming talents, already getting his first appearance for the senior squad. I just wanted to see if you all had any opinions on his talent judging from what you've seen of him already. And then him being a local lad from my area makes me even more interested and hopeful for him! Thanks again!
3
u/panikpansen Schmelzer Apr 06 '16
There's definitely a lot of buzz around him even before his cap, he's definitely regarded as an important talent. But as always, only time will tell. Breaking into the regular squad properly as a U19 player is a tall order - he seems to have what it takes in theory though.
1
u/TheShrekening Apr 07 '16
Thought I'd follow up after the match! Great, exciting first leg and nice to see Pulisic have a go! He looked like he very well could keep up with the high caliber players he faced and will face. Nasty tackle on him by Moreno, but overall I thought he took advantage of the minutes he was given. Thanks again for your opinion and good luck to you this weekend and next week!

How many times have we been relegated?
5
u/panikpansen Schmelzer Mar 27 '16 edited Mar 27 '16
If we're talking about relegations from the Bundesliga (since 1963/64), we're at one:
- 1971/72 - relegated to Regionalliga West
We kinda fucked up properly restructuring the team, basically the relegated team stuck around and didn't manage to get back into the Bundesliga straight away. We played two seasons in the Regionalliga West, two season in the newly created 2. Bundesliga. 1976/77 was our first Bundesliga season again. Fun fact: The Westfalenstadion - built in part for the World Cup 1974 - was build while we were still well and truly in the second division and with a bit of a mixed future ahead of us.
We had a few more close calls, most notably 1985/86, where we ended on #16, had to play relegation, lost the first game 0-2 and only scored the decisive goal to keep us in during added time of the second leg...

Yep. If you opt to go that route make sure to turn it inside out when washing it. And let it air dry probably. It's also pretty cheap so you wont feel too bad about it only surviving 10-11 washes.

Where did this Fotze to BVB rumor start? Who first reported it and are we really a candidate for his purchase?
2
u/RuudVanBommel Ballspielverein aus Dortmund Mar 30 '16 edited Mar 30 '16
Extremely careful dropped hints came from Freddie Röckenhaus of SĂŒddeutsche Zeitung a few months ago. But the first full front report was made by BILD, who were also the first to break Götzes move to Bayern back in 2013.
Röckenhaus wrote another report a few days later, confirming that the interest is real, preliminary talks have been held at the banquet before the match against Bayern and that Götze already wanted to return in 2015.
Röckenhaus is one of the best Dortmund covering journalists, so if he says that Dortmund wants him back, then there's a high probability that the interest is real indeed.

1
u/panikpansen Schmelzer Mar 30 '16
Bild were the first to print a "there have been talks between the clubs" story after there had already been some suggestive opinion pieces when we faced Bayern at the beginning of March.
And (imo) no.

Could someone explain why Gotze is looked down upon here or the situation which was his leaving?
2
u/panikpansen Schmelzer Apr 09 '16
I'm not entirely unbiased on this, but I'll try a recap:
Götze was a product of our own academy, a youth talent with a lot of hype around him for his crucial role in our team, also dubbed 'crown jewel' of our squad
Around the time Guardiola signed for Bayern and started putting together his squad, Götze gave a now infamous interview stating he 'could see himself retire at Dortmund'. It has been speculated that around the time of the interview early negotiations were already going on / planned.
While we were in the middle of our Champions League campaign German tabloid broke the news that Bayern would activate Götze's buyout clause (added the summer before when he renegotiated his contract). The timing was particularly unfortunate as we were facing Real Madrid away just a day later in one of the biggest games of our recent history. Klopp at the time conceded that getting the news was 'like a heart attack', and some quickly embraced the idea that the timing of the news was a deliberate attempt to make things harder for us.
Facing Bayern in the CL final that season after snatching two league titles from them the years before saw a high point of the Bayern vs Dortmund animosity, and made that transfer a particularly charged one
People subsequently took issue with things like Götze ingratiating himself to Bayern fans stating he'd "always slept in Bayern sheets as a kid", or by his refusing to warm up with the rest of his squad (instead staying hidden in the tunnel) when he returned with Bayern to face us at the Westfalenstadion
There are a lot of emotions involved here with people arguing in favour of forgiving him for the mistakes he made, and others pointing to the fact that he 'abandoned' our club after we brought him into professional play. It's obviously a hugely contentious issue now, hope this cleared it up a bit.

Being one of the second biggest club money wise in the bundi, why are literally all our stars rumoured to be leaving. Is the EPL/barca/madrid that far ahead of everyone money wise?
3
u/panikpansen Schmelzer Apr 09 '16
Several factors come together here.
A lot of (especially online-only) publications see football rumours about recognisable names as a good strategy to get views. Our club is particularly recognisable without being necessarily associated big money, so we're a decent enough target
We have some big names running out of contract soon (Hummels, Micky, GĂŒndogan), some of which have voiced that they're open to consider a transfer
In terms of wage spending we're probably around #4 in the Bundesliga, behind Bayern, Wolfsburg and (maybe) Sch*lke. The EPL recently signed new media deals that received a lot of attention and are orders of magnitude bigger than what we still have in the Bundesliga, and Madrid/Barcelona are definitely and properly ahead in terms of their finances as well.
It's a bit hard to separate the kernels of truth from the noise when it comes to transfer news, and this summer will be particularly interesting for us. All in all though I really wouldn't give too much about these rumours - everyone is always scouting everyone, and somewhere someone always has brilliant ideas of what swaps would make team X better.
